Sannuta Raghu

Delivering the best news experience to audiences

Sannuta Raghu is an award-winning Indian journalist and television producer with more than 14 years of experience. Since 2016, she has built, shaped and scaled Scroll.in’s digital video newsroom – creating news products for platforms with 6 million to 200 million users. Raghu is using machine learning to understand which news formats are most appealing to different audiences and is working on a tool to improve the way young audiences receive the news.

As an ICFJ Knight Fellow, Raghu will establish which five news formats deliver the best news experience to younger audiences. She will also create an open-source collection of at least 200 existing news formats, documenting what formats news outlets use to tell their stories. These projects will intersect as Raghu creates a roadmap for implementing an AI solution that combines news formats, user behavior insights and machine learning to deliver a net-positive news experience. Raghu will create an overview of which news formats deliver news in the most effective way to different audiences.

Raghu was previously a Producer at CNBC TV18, CNN-IBN and CNN-News18 in Mumbai, India. She has received fellowships from the Reuters Institute, CUNY Newmark School of Journalism and Columbia Journalism School. She speaks Hindi, English, Marathi, Kannada, Konkani and Gujarati and loves Indian classical music.
