ICFJ is once again partnering on Media Party in Buenos Aires, now in its 11th edition. Registrations are open for the conference, taking place Oct. 5-7 at the Centro Cultural Konex.

What are you going to find?

This year, the focus is on the importance of understanding and applying different types of artificial intelligence, with a focus on ethics, security and privacy.

At the same time, Media Party will continue to offer participants opportunities to learn about (and collaborate on) audience, product and monetization issues in journalism, with cross-cutting themes ranging from the evolution of the local news ecosystem to disinformation, climate change, internet access and the creators' economy.

About its history

Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires created Media Party in 2012 with the vision of revolutionizing journalism. Every year, this conference generates synergy between journalists, developers, entrepreneurs and civic hackers who pursue innovation in media.

What happens at Media Party?
Media Party is a very dynamic event where many things happen at once. Here's an overview of the different activities so you don't miss a thing.

Keynotes: The main speakers will open the first two days in the central auditorium. You just have to arrive early and be receptive to inspiration.

Workshops: These are two-hour sessions to learn new skills, methodologies, tools or processes. The hard part is choosing which workshops to attend and registering before they fill up.

Lightning talks: The community shares processes, projects and reflections in five-minute talks. There will also be success stories and failures.

Media fair: In a science-fair format, see innovative prototypes, services and tools on exhibit. An unmissable space to connect in community.

Hackathon: On Oct. 7, we will work. This is a day of collaborative work to develop impactful tools, products or services for the news and media industry.

'Women Who Won the War' is Creating Space for Women in the Middle East to Tell Their Own Stories

The Syrian Civil War has claimed the lives of more than 500,000 people since protests against the government during the Arab Spring ignited into conflict in 2011. Nearly 7 million Syrians have fled abroad in a mass exodus, and an equivalent number have been displaced inside the country – in total, over half of Syria’s pre-war population. The war has since faded from global attention but Syrian journalists continue to report on it today, while bearing witness to the crimes committed in what has been one of the 21st century’s deadliest conflicts.
