Héctor Alejandro Arzate

Immigrant Communities Reporter

Héctor Alejandro Arzate is an immigrant communities reporter for WAMU, the public radio station in the Washington D.C. region. His stories focus on the the every day lives of immigrants and their intersection with food, religion, health, politics, and the arts. He is a first generation Mexican-American who was raised in Richmond, California. 

Arzate has a bachelor's degree in criminology and justice studies from Humboldt State University. While in college, he worked for the school's bilingual newspaper, El Leñador, and the student radio station, KRFH 105.1 FM. After graduating, he interned at several publications before working for NPR's 1A, El Tímpano, and KQED. When Arzate is not working, he enjoys flying-fishing, cumbia, magical realism,and cheese.
