James Okong'o

James Okong’o is a digital investigation journalist at AFP. Based in Nairobi, he covers Anglo-African countries. He has written hundreds of fact-check reports and produced dozens of other articles on misinformation and disinformation on events ranging from Covid-19 to the Kenyan 2022 elections, Zimbabwe elections and the Ethiopian conflict. He also writes stories for the news desk. Before relocating to Kenya, Okong’o worked in Johannesburg for two years. Prior to joining AFP, he worked as a fact-checking journalist for more than two years at Code for Africa. Okong’o won gold at the 2023 Africa Fact-Checking Awards, and silver in 2022.
