Kavita Avasthi
I entered the nonprofit landscape from the green pastures of a Fortune 500 company about nine years ago. It was a humbling feeling to see how different the two were, and I have found the transition immensely rewarding both personally and professionally.
My background: My initial experience was in accounting and I encountered human resources through my mentors and superiors who recognized the potential in me. The intersection of these two crucial areas in my professional experience have given me a great understanding of the roles employees play in the financial success or failure of an organization.
I have a B.A in history with a minor in economics from Indraprastha College, Delhi University.
As Director, Human Resources and Administration, a department of one at ICFJ, I am involved in multiple functions consisting of duties of an HR generalist and manager, along with payroll and benefits administration. But this is what I enjoy about my job. The scope of my job is diverse, ranging from filling out and reviewing forms to having the opportunity to inspect and influence aspects of the organization that are intertwined with employee relations, safety and success.
