Marcela Trejo is a recipient of the 2025 News Creator Award.

Marcela Trejo is a journalist based in El Salvador with a degree in Economics from Universidad Centroamericana “José Simeón Cañas.” 

Their work covers topics such as gender and LGBTIQA+ rights, environmental struggle, tax justice, political activism and democracy, and has been published in salvadoran outlets like Alharaca, El Faro, Focos, Factum and Revista La Brújula, as well as the honduran Contracorriente. They have worked across formats, including vertical videos, chronicles, investigative pieces, podcasts and social media reporting. 

They view journalism as a form of participant observation, aiming to make complex information engaging and accessible. They are also a musician and poet.
