Paris Alston
Paris Alston is a Bringing Home the World Fellow in 2019.
Paris is a Boston-based multimedia journalist. She currently works as an associate producer for WBUR’s Radio Boston, where she researches, produces and reports segments for a one-hour daily local news magazine.
She previously worked at WGBH in Boston and held internships at NBC Sports, UNC-TV and NBC-10 Philadelphia. A North Carolina native, she studied broadcast journalism and global studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Paris simplifies her passion for multimedia journalism into a few basic things she loves to do: travel, meet new people, tell stories and make things look good. Her storytelling interests surround identity, community and culture, and she finds joy in telling stories close to home and far away, using words and visuals to shine light on overlooked corners and communities of the world.
As a student at UNC Chapel Hill, Paris earned the SPJ’s Mark of Excellence Award for Television Breaking News Reporting, and she is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). She is excited to embark on this journey and study how migration relates to religion and politics, and to unpack the cultural distinctions between Evangelical Brazilians in the U.S. and Brazil.
Project: Paris’ project will juxtapose the experiences of evangelical Brazilians in Brazil and the U.S., looking at the similarities and differences in race, class, and political identity among congregants in each country.
