Ulkar Natiqqizi

Programs and Communications Consultant

I am an Azerbaijani journalist with a strong interest in politics and women rights. At ICFJ, I provide support to the programs team, as well as write for ICFJ.org as well as IJNet, the organization’s resource center for journalists that publishes in eight languages.

My background: I received a BA in journalism from the Azerbaijan University of Languages and an MA from the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs. Studying in Georgia gave me an opportunity to report on women's issues and human rights among the local Azerbaijani community. My university organized an amazing program to teach journalism to school kids, where I spent two years as a trainer assistant, which taught me so many skills.

Until 2023, I worked for Eurasianet, an independent media outlet focused on the South Caucasus and Central Asia, providing on-the-ground reporting as a senior contributor.
