Vitaliia Tomakhiv
Joining the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is a key milestone in my life, allowing me to support journalists around the world, especially in places where access to information is limited. As a program assistant, I help facilitate global programs, such as Disarming Disinformation, and country-level programs in Europe and Asia.
My background: My background lies at the intersection of international affairs and media. I earned a BA in linguistics and an MA in political science in Kyiv, followed by another MA in global policy with a focus on foreign policy and security from the University of Maine. My past work includes writing for Radio Liberty, interning at the parliament of Ukraine, working with a U.S. IT company and the Graduate School at UMaine, and interning with the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation on Capitol Hill.
During my graduate studies in Maine, I wrote independent papers on Russian war crimes in Ukraine and the role of women in the Russian-Ukrainian War. One of the most significant parts of my growth as a person and young professional occurred in the summer of 2023, when I had the honor of filming a short documentary about Ukrainian soldiers on the front line in the Donetsk region.
