Charlie Rose
Charlie Rose is a co-host of "CBS This Morning" with Norah O'Donnell and Gayle King. Since the January 2012 launch of "CBS This Morning," the program has become the fastest growing morning news broadcast in the U.S. Rose is also a contributing correspondent to "60 Minutes," whose recent interviews include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Comedian Larry David, Broadway's Lin-Manuel Miranda and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.
Rose continues to serve as executive editor and host of "Charlie Rose," which appears nightly on PBS and in prime time on Bloomberg Television in the United States and around the world. Since 1991, "Charlie Rose" has aired countless hours with Nobel Laureates, and extraordinary men and women of science, politics, art, business, sports, technology, literature and entertainment. Its round oak table and simple black backdrop provide an intimate atmosphere for intelligent conversation. These conversations have made the broadcast a cultural and intellectual archive of our time.
Before launching his PBS program, Rose worked for CBS News (1984-90) as the anchor of "Nightwatch," the network's first late-night news broadcast. He won a 1987 Emmy Award for his interview with convicted mass murderer Charles Manson.
Rose created, produced and hosted "The Charlie Rose Show" for KXAS-TV Dallas/Ft. Worth (1979-81) and secured its national syndication in 1981 by moving the program to Washington, D.C., where it was broadcast on WRC-TV, the NBC-owned station (1981-84). He also hosted and produced a daily hour-long talk show, co-hosted "AM/Chicago" for WLS-TV Chicago (1978-79) and served as a correspondent for NBC News in Washington (1976-77).
Rose entered television journalism full-time as managing editor of "Bill Moyers' International Report" on PBS (1974-75). He was the executive producer of the PBS series "Bill Moyers' Journal" (1975-76) and served as a correspondent for "USA: People and Politics," Moyers' weekly PBS series on the 1976 political campaign, for which they received a Peabody Award.
Rose is the recipient of the Legion d'honneur, many honorary degrees, and numerous awards from the scientific and journalism communities including the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. In 2014, he appeared on TIME's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the world.
Rose won both Emmy and Peabody awards for his September 2013 interview with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that made worldwide headlines.
Charlie Rose was born in Henderson, North Carolina, and graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in History and a J.D. from the School of Law. He also attended the New York University Graduate School of Business. He is a frequent moderator at global forums around the world. He lives in New York City and Bellport, Long Island.
