Media Funding, Trust Metrics, News Creators and More: The 2025 International Journalism Festival

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will be at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy this spring to learn, connect and collaborate with other journalists and media supporters from across the world.

ICFJ team members will contribute to discussions on critical topics ranging from funding models and press freedom to AI's impact and innovative approaches to measuring impact. Sessions can be watched live online, and recordings will be available here.
 

  • From Funding Crisis to Opportunity: Ideas and Solutions in a Post-USAID Landscape
    ICFJ President Sharon Moshavi will participate in a conversation exploring innovative funding models as traditional support structures evolve. The audience will be invited to join in and contribute. – April 10
     
  • Captured: How Silicon Valley's AI Emperors Are Reshaping Reality
    Deputy Vice President of Research Dr. Julie Posetti will take part in a panel examining the impact of AI technologies on journalism and how major tech companies are influencing information ecosystems worldwide. – April 10
     
  • Broken Trust: Time to Abandon a Manipulated Metric
    Nobel Peace Prize winner and ICFJ Board Director Maria Ressa, Dr. Posetti and other experts, will address the limitations of current trust metrics in journalism and propose more meaningful ways to measure and build audience confidence. – April 11
     
  • Going Independent: How Journalists Are Building Audiences and Growing Businesses Across the World
    Independent journalists will share their journey, from launching their publications to growing sustainable audiences. This session will be hosted by ICFJ – April 11
     
  • The News Creator Award For Excellence in Independent Video Journalism
    ICFJ, with support from YouTube, will honor independent journalists and news creators from across the world who produce high-quality, reliable news in the public interest in an award ceremony on April 11 at 4 pm.
     
  • The Weaponization of Nostalgia
    Dr. Posetti will share initial findings from ICFJ’s Disarming Disinformation research in a discussion exploring how nostalgic narratives are being exploited to undermine factual reporting and democratic values. – April 12
     
  • Drop-in Clinic: Explore ICFJ's Online Violence Alert and Response System Tools
    Join ICFJ Deputy Director of Research Nabeelah Shabbir and Research Associate Kaylee Williams to learn more about our Online Violence Alert and Response System dashboard for monitoring digital attacks in real time. – April 12
