United Airlines Renews Support for ICFJ’s Minority Reporting Program

CHICAGO - United Airlines has renewed its partnership with the Washington, D.C.-based International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to support the Bringing Home the World: International Reporting Fellowship Program for Minority Journalists. Under the partnership, United will be the sponsoring airline for the third year for several Fellows who will travel to Latin America.

ICFJ has selected 12 Bringing Home the World Fellows for 2016.

ICFJ Fellows Win Prestigious Reporting Awards for International Stories

Seven participants in ICFJ’s international reporting fellowships for U.S.-based journalists recently earned top awards for outstanding coverage.

As fellows in the 2014 Bringing Home the World International Reporting Fellowship and the Social Justice Reporting for a Global America Fellowship, the journalists received funding and support to pursue stories overseas. They tackled topics such as immigration, religion and sexual exploitation.

For his investigation into the sex trade along the United States’ Eastern seaboard, ICFJ Reporting Fellow Phillip Martin and the WGBH News team won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in electronic journalism.

2013 International Reporting Fellows to Focus on Key Social Issues

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has selected 14 participants from the United States to report on everything from immigration to women’s health in the 2013 Bringing Home the World: International Reporting Fellowship Program for Minority Journalists. ICFJ also selected six U.S. journalists as fellows for the inaugural Social Justice Reporting for a Global America Program.

The fellows were chosen from a record 200 applications based on the quality of their proposals. Participants will report from abroad on issues that resonate with their local audiences.

France's 'Burqa Ban,' One Year Later

Radio producer Arwa Gunja traveled to Paris as an International Reporting Fellow to examine the impact of France's "burqa ban." The law, instituted one year ago, is a restriction on Muslim women covering their faces in the traditional burqa or niqab.

Widely supported in France, the ban was meant to free women of gender enslavement and help Muslims better integrate into French society.

From Human Trafficking to "Fracking," 2012 International Reporting Fellows Tackle Key Global Issues

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) announced that 10 U.S. minority journalists will take on important social-justice and economic issues in this year’s International Reporting Fellowship program. The 2012 Fellows, chosen from 128 applicants, will cover a range of key issues, from the latest routes for smuggling people from Mexico into the United States, to a comparison of natural gas extraction called “fracking” in Poland and Pennsylvania.

ICFJ now accepting applications for 2012 International Reporting Fellowship Program

For a second year, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will offer the “Bringing Home the World: International Reporting Fellowship Program for Minority Journalists.”

Through this fellowship, journalists of color gain foreign reporting experience and an opportunity to cover important international issues that resonate with their communities.

Applicants must present a project proposal in their application, detailing the reporting project they would be interested in pursuing.

The deadline for submitting applications is Monday January 16, 2012.
