In recent years, Eastern European countries have been overrun with propaganda and disinformation, resulting in a decline of public trust in the media. As the misinformation crisis expands rapidly across borders, it’s more important than ever for journalists of different backgrounds to come together to find solutions.

The U.S.-Austrian Journalism Exchange Fellowships fosters greater understanding and knowledge of both countries among future media leaders and their audiences by helping them overcome historical stereotypes and political misperceptions.

“Hands Across the Water: An Opportunity for U.K. Journalists to Report on the U.S. Presidential Election and Political System” is a reporting tour for ten journalists selected from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The participants had an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the U.S. electoral process, current issues and candidates through meetings, site visits and public and political events as well as reporting opportunities.

To carry forward Hoge's legacy and his passion for journalistic integrity, ICFJ launched the Jim Hoge Legacy Fund. Through three-month reporting fellowships, the Fund supports rising news leaders at home and abroad, helping the next generation of journalists safely and effectively report on pressing global issues, from disinformation to climate change to rising authoritarianism.
