Sub-Saharan Africa

The world has made major progress on HIV, notably in sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV burden is greatest. Increased access to lifesaving treatment and prevention options has led to a steady decline in AIDS-related deaths and HIV incidence. Efforts are underway to build on these gains and expand access to proven tools, including approaches that protect vulnerable populations by preventing new HIV infections.

African journalists are invited to participate in a six-week online course: “Covering Development in Africa.” The course will be held from May 20, 2013, to June 28, 2013. The deadline to apply is May 6, 2013.

Le Centre international pour les journalistes (ICFJ) a lancé un programme en partenariat avec le plus important syndicat de journalistes au Sénégal. Il s’agit d’un projet dont l’objectif est d’appuyer les professionnels des médias, en vue de travailler avec plus d’efficacité dans la promotion des libertés et la protection des journalistes.

Le programme, démarré en octobre 2009, dure trente mois.

ICFJ’s Reporting Program on Migration and Climate empowers Nigerian journalists to produce quality coverage of population movements and their impact on climate and economic prospects. Journalists work with global experts on climate and migration.

ICFJ’s Reporting Grants program is designed to expand ICFJ’s offering to its global network by introducing individual reporting grants for projects that might not fit under existing programs.

Through three-month reporting fellowships, the Fund supports rising news leaders at home and abroad, helping the next generation of journalists safely and effectively report on pressing global issues, from disinformation to climate change to rising authoritarianism.
