Mohamed Emad

Mohamed Emad Ali Helal was a 2014 ICFJ Professional Fellow from the Middle East, on the program "Unlocking the Economic Potential of Digital Media." He is the Senior Video Journalist at elwatannews.com and elwatantv.com, the official websites of the privately owned Egyptian newspaper El-Watan. Emad works as a one-man crew, from writing outlines and scripts, to filming and shooting, to editing, directing, and producing projects. He received an award from the EU Delegation to Lebanon in June 2014 for his short documentary on the slain Egyptian protester Gaber “Gika” Salah. Emad also works as a teaching assistant in media and translation at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. Emad was previously a news reporter at CBC TV network for the program “Kalam Masry” (Egyptian talk). While at university he helped organize the Arab Media Forum for Youth and served as the announcer for a youth talk-show that hosted prominent public figures. Emad holds a bachelor’s in media and journalism from Cairo University where he is currently pursuing master’s coursework in radio and television. He has received training at Modern TV Network, Sada El Balad TV Channel, Iqraa International TV Network, and Egyptian State TV’s News Sector, as well as completing courses in advanced video reporting from DW Akademie and in livestreaming from You Tube-Middle East.
