Yasser Alfakharany
Media Specialist- Egypt Yasser AlFakharany is an editor, writer and professional media specialist the Electronic Media Syndicate, the first media association in the Middle East representing online journalists. In Egypt he has worked as an editor and translator for Reuters News Agency and as a reporter for the Arab Media Network and Sports Voice newspaper. In the Arabian Gulf region, AlFakharany worked as an editor and reporter for Al-Watan/Oman Tribune newspapers in Oman and as media relations manager for public relations companies in Dubai.
After the 2011 uprising in Egypt, AlFakharany became a website editor and reporter for Rassd News Network (RNN), which became a leading independent source of news on the revolution, leveraging citizen journalism through social media. He and colleagues founded the Electronic Media Syndicate (EMS) to represent the interests of online journalists. “EMS has played an important role in improving the conditions of many journalists,” AlFakharany said, “as a platform for defending their rights and releasing them from police [detention] after being arrested, and speaking on behalf of them in various media forums and conferences.” He manages the syndicate’s relations with organizations in other countries and monitors the environment for electronic media and freedom of expression in Egypt and the Arab world. AlFakharany holds a bachelor’s of English language and literature from Cairo University.
