Is Leap an in-person or virtual program?
Leap is an online, virtual program.
Are there any costs to participate in Leap?
There are no costs to apply or participate in the program. All ICFJ wants is your commitment to dedicating at least three hours a week to Leap - and we will keep track of your engagement!
What are the targeted countries in this program?
The program is open globally, and you can be from any country. You must be fluent in English.
What level of English proficiency is required?
Participants should have very strong English reading, writing and speaking skills. The application should be filled out in English, and the selection interviews, made by a specialist weeks after you submit your application, will also be conducted in English. For more eligibility requirements, see below.
How do I apply for a fellowship?
The fellows for 2022 have already been selected, and fellowship applications will open again in Spring 2023.
What are the requirements to participate in the Leap innovation lab?
You are a journalist, technologist or product person who:
- Can identify a journalism challenge and work to solve it
- Likes to collaborate with others
- Has shown yourself to be a changemaker
- Is ready to commit at least three hours a week
- Is willing to share your product or outcomes with the journalistic community
- Is fluent in English
How many staffers from a single organization can participate in Leap?
Small teams from newsrooms are encouraged to apply.
