Wall Street Journal Deputy Managing Editor Joins ICFJ Board of Directors

Christine Glancey, deputy managing editor for news operations and talent at The Wall Street Journal, has joined the ICFJ Board of Directors.

Glancey brings to the board her deep knowledge of the news industry and newsroom training gained from nearly thirty years at The Journal. In her current role, which she took on in 2015, she is responsible for the global newsroom budget, operations, talent management and training.

Google News Lab to Expand Reach of First Global Survey of Newsroom Tech

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 5, 2016 – With new support from Google News Lab, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) will expand its groundbreaking global survey on the adoption of newsroom technologies from seven to 12 languages.

The upcoming survey, the State of Technology in Global Newsrooms, will shed much-needed light on how news media professionals use digital innovations for reporting, storytelling and distribution in newsrooms around the world.

Digital Wars: Quality Journalism Faces Off With the Forces of Deception

ICFJ President Joyce Barnathan spoke at the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA)'s Annual Assembly in Mexico City on the topic of "The Press, Digital Revolution and Democracy." Her remarks:

"I once heard that it takes 40 years to understand the full impact of a new technology. If that’s the case, then we are still in the middle of a digital revolution that is disrupting every industry from retail to banking and the media. It also takes time to understand the negative impact of that technology.

Six Journalists Probing Global Health Issues Win Reporting Contest

The International Center for Journalists has named six journalists from around the world as winners of the 2016 Global Health Reporting Contest. They produced riveting stories, from profiles of pregnant women living in the heart of the Zika epidemic in Brazil to health workers traveling on bikes to distribute medicines in Cameroon.

The entries were selected from more than 150 submissions. The winners – from Brazil, Cameroon, China, India, Russia and Zimbabwe – will visit Washington, D.C., Atlanta and New York this fall as part of a 10-day study tour.

An engineer by training, Levine will further enhance ICFJ’s digital journalism programs and strengthen internal expertise and systems. He will play a crucial role in reinforcing ICFJ’s position as a leader at the intersection of high-quality journalism and new technology.

Media Leaders in South Asia and Middle East Join ICFJ Board of Directors

Two prominent media executives working in South Asia and the Middle East have joined the International Center for Journalists' (ICFJ) board of directors. They are Bobby Ghosh, the new editor-in-chief at the Hindustan Times in New Delhi, and Saad Mohseni, chairman and CEO of MOBY Media Group, with holdings in South and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

United Airlines Renews Support for ICFJ’s Minority Reporting Program

CHICAGO - United Airlines has renewed its partnership with the Washington, D.C.-based International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to support the Bringing Home the World: International Reporting Fellowship Program for Minority Journalists. Under the partnership, United will be the sponsoring airline for the third year for several Fellows who will travel to Latin America.

ICFJ has selected 12 Bringing Home the World Fellows for 2016.
