Amid mis/disinformation spreading across Algeria, Libya and Tunisia, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is partnering with the Media Development Center (MDC) to combat this widespread issue. Through this collaboration, both organizations aim to provide journalists and media innovators in North Africa with essential tools and knowledge to scale the impact of their work, while strengthening the resilience of the region’s information ecosystem and addressing the emerging challenges of mis/disinformation.
This program will accomplish the following objectives:
- Strengthen the capacity of journalists and civic-minded digital influencers across the target countries in North Africa to identify, investigate, and root out malicious and false information and their sources online.
- Catalyze fact-based, high-quality reporting projects that debunks mid/disinformation related to critical public interest issues in target countries.
- Foster a regional and collaborative network of professional and citizen journalists, digital influencers, and like-minded individuals around a shared desire to advance factual information that serves their communities.
The goal is to strengthen the resilience of the information ecosystem in North Africa against national and transnational mis/disinformation campaigns that threaten informed civic engagement and democratic reform.
