As disinformation around public health issues has become more prevalent, journalists and media professionals must navigate a complex information environment to report effectively around public health crises like COVID-19. 

ICFJ has partnered with CRDF Global, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, to provide journalists with the skills and strategies to properly identify and counter disinformation around health security issues. 

Thanks to generous support from the Dow Jones Foundation, ICFJ is able to bring cutting-edge reporting tips and storytelling techniques to thousands of webinar participants across the globe. Over the past two years, we’ve quintupled our audience size and now reach more than 6,000 journalists, bloggers and students annually. ICFJ Knight Fellows working in Latin America, South Asia and Africa led our most recent webinars.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is pleased to partner with Facebook Journalism Project on a training program that allows journalists across the Middle East and North Africa to produce high-quality and engaging stories that shine a light on life in refugee camps at this time of the coronavirus pandemic. The program equips journalists with the skills, resources, and technical support needed to produce compelling reports that surface underreported stories from refugee camps across countries with large refugee communities such as Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. With an emphasis on the direct and indirect consequences of COVID-19 on an already struggling community. The goal is to ensure that this vulnerable community is not forgotten during the global pandemic.

The Bringing Home the World Fellowship helps U.S.-based minority journalists cover compelling yet under-reported international stories, increasing the diversity of voices in global news. The program helps level the playing field and redress the inequality minority journalists often face by giving them the opportunity to report from overseas and advance their careers.

This grant program will provide urgent financial support for independent publishers with a special focus

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is partnering with the Google News Initiative on a large-scale effort to strengthen the digital know-how of thousands of journalists across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Participants the program will learn the most effective ways to gather and source information, enhance trust and verification, use data for stories and apps, and embrace immersive storytelling.

In recent years, Eastern European countries have been overrun with propaganda and disinformation, resulting in a decline of public trust in the media. As the misinformation crisis expands rapidly across borders, it’s more important than ever for journalists of different backgrounds to come together to find solutions.

Three U.S.-based journalists will be selected for a 19-day reporting trip in Japan, to be conducted between May and September 2018, in the fifth year of ICFJ's "Illuminating Today's Japan for American Audiences" program. The participating journalists will work with an experienced Japanese interpreter and fixer, and are expected to dig into the economic, social, cultural, environmental and energy-policy challenges facing the country. ICFJ will consider program alumni for one spot.

This new ICFJ program aims to elevate coverage of women’s and children’s health issues, by bolstering the knowledge and skills of young journalists. Participants will learn from top international experts, and amplify the conversation around these critical topics in their own countries.
