Supporting Beirut: Response and Recovery Fund

Following the 2020 Beirut explosion, ICFJ partnered with the Facebook Journalism Project to support journalists and news organizations affected by the devastating blast. The initiative helped local news outlets that suffered damage to infrastructure and resources get back on their feet. In fall of 2021, ICFJ will administer the second phase of the program, designed to help Lebanese journalists and newsrooms boost their audience engagement strategies and strengthen their business operations.

Countering State-Based COVID-19 Public Health Disinformation: Remote Training for Journalists and Media

As disinformation around public health issues has become more prevalent, journalists and media professionals must navigate a complex information environment to report effectively around public health crises like COVID-19. 

ICFJ has partnered with CRDF Global, on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, to provide journalists with the skills and strategies to properly identify and counter disinformation around health security issues.

ICFJ-Facebook Training & Reporting Grants Program: Reporting on Refugee Communities Amidst a Pandemic

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is pleased to partner with Facebook Journalism Project on a training program that allows journalists across the Middle East and North Africa to produce high-quality and engaging stories that shine a light on life in refugee camps at this time of the coronavirus pandemic. The program equips journalists with the skills, resources, and technical support needed to produce compelling reports that surface underreported stories from refugee camps across countries with large refugee communities such as Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. With an emphasis on the direct and indirect consequences of COVID-19 on an already struggling community. The goal is to ensure that this vulnerable community is not forgotten during the global pandemic.

IJNet Arabic Training Network Powered by Google News Initiative

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is partnering with the Google News Initiative on a large-scale effort to strengthen the digital know-how of thousands of journalists across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Participants the program will learn the most effective ways to gather and source information, enhance trust and verification, use data for stories and apps, and embrace immersive storytelling.

Reporting Tour for Egyptian Journalists in South Korea and Japan

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) conducted a reporting and fact-finding tour for eight Egyptian journalists in South Korea and Japan in early 2018. With the rising threat and uncertainty over North Korea’s nuclear arms program, the tour was a timely immersion for the Egyptian journalists in information about the threats that loom over South Korea and Japan, two countries that, like Egypt, are important U.S. partners.
