See What We've Done

  • Since the start of the program, over 200 journalists have joined the Border Hub community and received training and mentorship on investigative reporting, data driven journalism, digital and physical security.
     
  • 98 investigative reporting fellowships have been awarded and have produced over 70 stories exposing corruption, transparency, and accountability issues at the national, state, and local level in Mexico. For most journalists, this was the first time they received hands-on mentorship and published an in-depth investigative report touching on corruption, as well transparency and accountability issues impacting healthcare, education, the environment, local governance, public infrastructure, transportation, human rights, and the treatment of vulnerable communities (women, LGBTQ+, indigenous populations, & youth).  
     
  • In the last 4 years, 15 organizational grants were awarded – for a total of $225,000 – to independent and nascent digital media outlets. The assistance is strengthening the administrative, programmatic, and managerial capacity of each organization while contributing to supporting the independent media ecosystem in Mexico’s northern border states.
     
  • 8 sustainability grants have been awarded – for a total of $80,000 – to aid media outlets develop business plans that include an assessment of their target audience, website traffic and reach of content, and how to develop alternative sources of revenue that supports the production of content.
