Broadcaster- Algeria
Becoming a journalist was a childhood dream for Djamila. While studying English at the University of Algiers, Mouffok began freelancing in 1991 for the Algerian daily newspapers Le Soir d’Algérie and Al Khabar.
In 1993 Mouffok was hired as a presenter on Algerian public television (ENTV) and has worked there continuously, including as a live anchor and host of programs on youth issues. She has pursued field reporting in addition to in-studio work. Among her projects, she produced a three-year series of documentaries on historical and social issues including the Algerian revolution of 1954 to 1962. With the tumultuous events following September 11, 2001, Mouffok began covering international news including the Iraq war, the Iranian nuclear program, U.S. presidential elections, the global economic crisis. Mouffok holds a bachelor’s in English from University of Algiers-Bouzareah.

Media and Communication Consultant- Egypt
Engy Azzam is a journalist and communication professional specialized in health, housing, women and children’s issues, education, and tourism. As a journalist, she worked as a reporter for Egypt’s Al Shorouk newspaper from 2008 to 2010 and as an editor for the lifestyle magazine Cairo360.com. “This gave me experience in dealing with various communities,” Azzam said. Azzam provided services in marketing to Viewpoint Communications and public relations for Sekem organic products. Azzam directed her skills to social causes as a communication assistant for Egypt’s National Child Rights Observatory and as media and communication officer for the UNDP Mine Action Project working to remove land mines from northwestern Egypt. She now serves as media and communication consultant for Egypt’s Chamber of Engineering Industries with duties including communication strategy, speech writing, media production, and fundraising. Azzam holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s in health journalism from Cairo University and a master's in business administration from École Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées.

Hend El-Behary has written news and economic stories in English and Arabic for many Egyptian newspapers and their websites. For Al Masry Al Youm newspaper’s English website in 2010, she wrote about electricity outages, conflict within the judicial system, and the popularity of marriage matchmakers. She worked as a reporter and translator for Youm 7 newspaper’s English edition and as a beat reporter for El Watan newspaper covering the 2012 presidential election.
El-Behary developed a specialty as a business reporter, writing about the economy and the stock market for the English web editions of Al-Ahram newspaper, Daily News Egypt, and currently Al Masry Al Youm. She also writes feature articles freelance for the English websites of Anadolu News Agency based in Turkey and Majalla magazine based in the U.K. She holds a bachelor’s in English journalism from Cairo University where she is pursuing a master’s in journalism.

Video Journalist/Filmmaker- Egypt
Mohamed Emad Ali Helal is the Senior Video Journalist at elwatannews.com and elwatantv.com, the official websites of the privately owned Egyptian newspaper El-Watan. Emad works as a one-man crew, from writing outlines and scripts, to filming and shooting, to editing, directing, and producing projects. He received an award from the EU Delegation to Lebanon in June 2014 for his short documentary on the slain Egyptian protester Gaber “Gika” Salah. Emad also works as a teaching assistant in media and translation at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. Emad was previously a news reporter at CBC TV network for the program “Kalam Masry” (Egyptian talk). While at university he helped organize the Arab Media Forum for Youth and served as the announcer for a youth talk-show that hosted prominent public figures. Emad holds a bachelor’s in media and journalism from Cairo University where he is currently pursuing master’s coursework in radio and television. He has received training at Modern TV Network, Sada El Balad TV Channel, Iqraa International TV Network, and Egyptian State TV’s News Sector, as well as completing courses in advanced video reporting from DW Akademie and in livestreaming from You Tube-Middle East.

Media Specialist- Egypt
Yasser AlFakharany is an editor, writer and professional media specialist the Electronic Media Syndicate, the first media association in the Middle East representing online journalists. In Egypt he has worked as an editor and translator for Reuters News Agency and as a reporter for the Arab Media Network and Sports Voice newspaper. In the Arabian Gulf region, AlFakharany worked as an editor and reporter for Al-Watan/Oman Tribune newspapers in Oman and as media relations manager for public relations companies in Dubai. <p/> After the 2011 uprising in Egypt, AlFakharany became a website editor and reporter for Rassd News Network (RNN), which became a leading independent source of news on the revolution, leveraging citizen journalism through social media. He and colleagues founded the Electronic Media Syndicate (EMS) to represent the interests of online journalists. “EMS has played an important role in improving the conditions of many journalists,” AlFakharany said, “as a platform for defending their rights and releasing them from police [detention] after being arrested, and speaking on behalf of them in various media forums and conferences.” He manages the syndicate’s relations with organizations in other countries and monitors the environment for electronic media and freedom of expression in Egypt and the Arab world. AlFakharany holds a bachelor’s of English language and literature from Cairo University.

Sally Mashaly has worked as a reporter and editor for many journalistic websites including Islamonline, HawaaWorld.com, and the websites of Qatar’s Al Arab newspaper and Egypt’s Shorouk newspaper. After the Egyptian uprising of 2011, Mashaly became Editor-in-Chief of Noreed.com, a multimedia website aimed at raising political awareness especially among youth. Mashaly led the contributors in producing articles, profiles, animated cartoons, videos, and interactive items. The website team promoted citizen journalism with contests and seminars around the country, and soon gained 1 million followers on Facebook. Mashaly is a mentor in BBC Media Action’s Media Neighbourhood Project and the Aspire Woman initiative. She holds a bachelor’s in commerce from Cairo University.

After working as an editor in the IT industry, Emad Mohamed Medhat worked for more than a decade at Egypt’s public-sector Nile News Channel writing and translating news reports, reaching the position of senior broadcast journalist. Medhat was the co-founder and chief editor of the channel’s online division Nile.eg. In 2012 began working for private-sector owned media outlets including Sada-El Balad television channel and Arab News Agency in addition to providing Arabic translation for Yahoo Sports’ coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Medhat holds a bachelor’s in English language and literature from Cairo University and has completed training in voice coaching, presentation, and human rights for media specialists.

Lamia Nabil is a business journalist with experience covering financial and economic affairs in the Middle East and beyond in terms comprehensible to an average person. While studying in London she gained experience as a business reporter at The Times of London newspaper, as an economics editor at the Financial Times newspaper, and as a broadcast journalist at the BBC Arabic service. In Egypt in 2011 and 2012 she worked as a television reporter and editor for ON TV’s show “Mal Misr” (Egypt money) and the program “Fi El Midan” (In the square) on Al Tahrir station, which took its name from the site of the Egyptian uprising. In 2013 Nabil was a business reporter for the English-language Daily News Egypt newspaper. She is currently business editor for the Arabic-language news website "DotMisr," supervising a staff of writers and collaborating with digital and broadcast teams. Nabil holds two master’s degree from University of London-Goldsmiths College in journalism and research in media and communications. She holds a licentiate of arts from Zagazig University, Egypt.

Business Journalist- Egypt
Mohammed Saeed has varied experience in business journalism as a reporter for television, print and web, as well as working in Egypt’s stock exchange. He began his experience in TV as producer and editor for the Arab Business Channel, as a translator and editor for the Sawatel news agency serving TV stations in the Arabian Gulf, and as a correspondent and editor for the private sector-owned ON TV channel in Egypt. He additionally has been a correspondent for Saudi Arabia’s government-owned Al Ekhbariya satellite channel since 2009. Meanwhile he contributed economics articles to Mubasher news website and Amwal Al Ghad magazine in Egypt. From 2010 to mid-2014 Saeed gained an inside perspective on the financial industry as senior media officer for the Egyptian Exchange, responding to media inquiries and producing bulletins and press releases in Arabic and English. In mid-2014 he was hired as the business reporter in Cairo for Al Arab News Channel owned by Saudi Arabia’s Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and based in Bahrain. He is helping the station build its video archive before its scheduled launch in late 2014, when his role will be covering developments in Egypt’s economy, markets and business sector. Saeed has a bachelor’s in journalism from Cairo University, where he is pursuing a master’s degree.

Saed Bassam Kamel Khawaldeh’s academic and professional endeavors follow his interests in business, media, technology, and culture. Khawaldeh is the assistant director of Annaja7 Radio, a national radio station for Jordanian youth, launched in mid-2013 by Hikaya Center for Civil Society Development, which Khawaldeh co-founded, and funded by the National Endowment for Democracy. The mostly volunteer-run station encourages entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, and creativity among youth. He was director of youth initiatives for the All-Jordan Youth Commission in 2013, and he organizes intercultural events at University of Jordan.
He holds a bachelor’s in computer engineering from Al-Balqa' Applied University in Salt, Jordan. He completed coursework in business administration and entrepreneurship at Indiana University in 2013, courses in training and leadership in Turkey in 2012, and other training in human rights, youth participation, business strategy, and evaluation.

Khalil AlHamar is an entrepreneur creating technology that strengthens client’s branding with the connective power of the web. AlHamar in 2010 founded Edges Media Company, which creates multimedia and web solutions for international customers, applying expertise in graphic design, web development, branding and online marketing, and software development including custom Apple apps. AlHamar writes about technology for theCITY and Khaleejesque magazines in Kuwait. AlHamar promotes blogging as head of the the organizing committee of the Bloggers Gathering seminar. He volunteers as a youth mentor including coaching teams of young people in creating media projects in the Shigardy Program. AlHamar holds a bachelor’s in business management Australian College of Kuwait and other certificates in business.

Rashid El Habi is a managerial professional specialized in improving the efficiency of information technology (IT) systems and business processes in the banking and telecommunications sector. El Habi worked for Banque Commerciale du Maroc initiating information systems and for its subsidiary Attijari Locabail as IT and control manager. He served as head of IT from 2001 to 2005 for the internet service provider Maroc Connect, overseeing a technology strategy to support the company’s launch and growth. He then served as IT senior manager for the telecommunications operator MediTelecom from 2005 to 2011, improving the governance and architecture of information technology systems. He is currently managing partner of the Morocco branch of the French company Neoxia, which offers IT consulting and software development. As such he develops mobile, web and e-commerce solutions for local and international businesses especially in media. Accumulating expertise in how to plan a “mobile enterprise” (a business whose important functions can be managed off-site via wireless devices), he published a paper in the International Journal of Computer Science Issues in 2013 proposing a new methodology of mobile strategy planning. El Habi holds an engineer’s degree in computer science from Mohammadia School of Engineering in Morocco as well as several professional certifications.

Afrah Jafar is a journalist and community organizer concerned with science, women’s issues, and social development. Jafar was a TV reporter for Saudi Channel 1 from 2007 to 2011 and a guest coordinator for MBC Channel in 2011 and 2012. She was a reporter for Al Watan newspaper from 2011 to 2013 with additional duties in sales and public relations, and she remains a freelance contributor. She has also contributed articles to Al Sharq newspaper and websites. Jafar is an active volunteer and fundraiser for numerous community festivals including events in her home city of Qateef promoting the environment, science, and technology. She assists organizations including the local and national astronomy associations and served as head of media for the Sanabes Social Development Committee. Jafar holds a bachelor’s in Arabic language from King Saud University in Riyadh. She has completed training in journalism, social media, documentary filmmaking, women’s rights, and how to train others in monitoring human rights.

Journalist- United Arab Emirates
Marwa Sabry applies her skills in communication, computer programming, social media and organizing toward her interests in social issues and civil society networking. Sabry was an editor and marketing consultant for the advertising firm BrandMoxie in Abu Dhabi’s Twofour54 Media Zone in 2010 and 2011 as well as writing about events in the UAE for Tempo magazine. She has worked for the multinational mobile phone service company Etisalat in sales, public relations and communication, helping to relaunch the company’s social media presence with engaging content coordinated with marketing campaigns. She has additional experience in public relations for Cubicx of Egypt. In 2013 she began working for the event organizing firm Reed Exhibitions as a writer, translator, and media buyer, assisting in staging international events on energy, aviation, and security. Sabry is currently news editor for 24 Media Studies which runs the popular news website www.24.ae. Sabry holds a bachelor’s in human and social sciences from the Sorbonne University in Paris.
